Drowning in Powder

Get inside the powder cloud with Swain. Yes.

Yesterday was one of those days where it felt good to be an integral part of the much maligned 5%. You know, Occupy Wall Street, the 1%, the 99%, all that? Except here in Utah, the labeling generally includes a slightly wider swath. Such that we’ve got what’s known as the 5%.

5% water content snow. For those who haven’t tasted this particular flavor of champagne, it’s a very, very light blend of snow. Not dense. Little heavier than air, in fact. Very good for skiing. So we did, Swain and I. We sipped the champagne, taking in enough to cover the bases just in case you passed on your allotment of the 5%. Tough deciding where it ranked on the snorkel meter. Based on what we’ve seen this season, probably just under a 2 for the most part. Check it:

Tree art. Notice how the artist has shaded the white into wisps... Jon is an adept painter.

Skis have stepped in the forest.

Sometimes, it's as if Jon travels with a smoke machine.
